right now we are trying to figure out what to do the next time there is something like hurricane sandy. yesterday i gave an hour speech, i'm sure everybody listened to every word. i was doing a speech on a 140 page book we listed on the plans that we can do to make our city more resilient. in our case we worry because we are on the atlantic coast and you have a lot of hurricanes coming off the coast and the forecast. oceans have risen a foot in the last several years and then another 2 1/2 in the next 50 years. the oceans are warmer so we would expect more storms and we have to be ready for that. we have 450 miles of coastline in new york city. we have a lot going up the rivers and we need a lot of technology to figure out how to protect from waves, from high water, from winds and that kind of thing. we have a potential because we live so densely of power out acknowledges. we have to be able to recover those. we are dependent on power. if you live on the top of an apartment building, you don't have power and you don't have water. that is a very big problem. we have thousands of people

the impact by the superstorm sandy we sent teams in there stablished collaborating center out of that collaborating center teams started to go out and do surveillance doing it vance assessment on the basic needs of the population we brought that information back and people who were acutely ill back into medical facilities or really temporary facilities that were used for medical purposes. and so these teams are are fairly well equipped and ready to go with suitcases many cases all around the world but then once you go into the communities and we start to build it back with the mesh networks then the local population are also able to use their cell phones and s.m.s. capability and then you can start crowdsourcing from the population itself in addition where you don't even have that capability what we do is build analog centers meaning with paper and maps maps and paper in collaborating centers where where they're hubs for people to come in and that might be a barbershop where it might be a restaurant or it could be a church whatever. it is the natural. meeting place for that community
